7 signs your website needs a check-up
Websites don’t usually break all at once. Small problems pile up quietly, and customers leave without telling you. Here are seven signs it’s time for a check-up.
- It takes more than a few seconds to load. Most people won’t wait. Try opening it on your phone using mobile data, not Wi-Fi.
- It’s hard to use on a phone. Tiny text, buttons too close together, or having to zoom and scroll sideways.
- The browser says “Not secure”. That usually means the security certificate (HTTPS) is missing or broken. Visitors see the warning and leave.
- Nothing has been updated in a year. Outdated plugins and software are one of the most common ways small business sites get hacked.
- The contact form has gone quiet. Send yourself a test message. If it never arrives, you may be missing real enquiries.
- Old information or broken links. Last year’s prices, wrong opening hours, or links that lead to an error page.
- You can’t find yourself. Search for what you sell plus your town on Google, and ask ChatGPT. If you don’t appear, customers can’t find you either.
What to do next
